Electrical grounding sources, source one and source two.

Episode Transcript

What does it mean to feel grounded?

WHY IS GROUNDING important?

Use Electricity egs

To give you an idea of how I view grounding, I’m using a really life example. When building a home or any type of dwelling in need of electricity, the use of electrical grounding will be absolutely necessary.

Electrical grounding is the process of directing excess electricity to the ground via a wire. Known as a grounding wire, it’s an essential safety component in most electrical systems. The grounding wire will discharge excess electricity safely to the ground so that it doesn’t cause injuries or fires. (source)

In electronic circuit theory, a “ground” is usually idealized as an infinite source or sink for charge, which can absorb an unlimited amount of current without changing its potential. (source)

Google Search for grounding exercises

Emos are a form of energy ie energy in motion in our bodies.  Energy needs a container within which to grow or change.  Container egs: the human body, a relationship between 2 people, or several relationships connected (ie family, community of some sort, or even a coaching group).  Sometimes the containers (relationships) are chosen, other times assigned so-to-speak.

Energy shows up in the form of our emotions resulting from interactions, either with others or within ourselves.

At times this energy can build up over time or other times it comes in a large quantity at once (certain event triggers it).

This energy is good in that it can teach us or direct us to what needs attention.

A key component is that the responsibility of this energy —the feeling, expressing and directing of it—-is that of the individual(s) within the container. That which is contained within our physical being is ours, and ours alone. That which is contained or felt within the relationship or group resides in the collective individuals, without assignment coming from one to another.

That’s a long way to say we are responsible for our own energy.

Similar to the grounding wire being directed to the literal ground or a place that is an infinite source for charge, a place that can absorb an unlimited amount of current without changing its potential…

we can learn to create and access that grounding wire within ourselves.

We can create a place where we can channel or safely release whatever extra or excess energy (emotion) fills our container.

To ground oneself could include a variety of practices some of which could be

Intentional breathing exercises

Thought download (and self coaching)

Regular journaling

Meditation

Guided meditation

Yoga

Somatic exercises

Regular check ins (w/ a therapist or life coach)

Raising awareness of your energy vibration (including your “resting” phase, heightened, triggered, etc)

Learning the specific things that trigger a high energy response

Grounding yourself is really and way of learning about your nervous system and how to regulate it.

Our sympathic nervous system and PNS are both important and each serves a very different purpose. One isn’t better, just have different roles.

More on that in a future episode!

Because of the personal work I am doing and the work I do w/ clients, I know when I’m not grounded. And better still, I am equipped to do what is needed to shift the energy within my container (Physical person) to a place of feeling grounded.  Or IOW,  release the excess energy in a safe way, to that source with infinite capacity to absorb that excess energy.  If you would like to explore what that looks like or feels like for you, I invite you to jump on a complimentary chat with me.  More info in show notes or shoot me an email hello@meaganskidmorecoaching.com.
